About

Restored coral-stone merchant house on Farasan Island in the Jazan region presented as a heritage museum on the architecture, pearl trade, and maritime culture of the southern Red Sea.

On the main Farasan Island in the Jazan region, the restored Beit Al-Refai is one of the most distinctive surviving merchant houses on the southern Red Sea coast. Built in coral stone and lime plaster with finely carved gypsum panels, it dates from the era when Farasan families were engaged in pearling, fishing, and maritime trade across the southern Red Sea. Today the house is presented as a heritage museum, with period rooms, decorative interiors, and displays on Farasan architecture, the pearl trade, and the island's natural and cultural environment.
