Jazan

An editorial orientation to the Khawlani coffee culture of the Jazan highlands, recognised by UNESCO on the Intangible Cultural Heritage list.

Khawlani coffee is grown on the misty mountain terraces of Jazan in the southwest of the Kingdom, by farming communities with a long, deeply rooted relationship with the crop. The knowledge and social practices around growing, harvesting and preparing Khawlani coffee were inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2022.

For visitors, the highland villages, small farms and coffee gatherings of Jazan offer an authentic window into this living tradition.
