About

An ancient hilltop fortress in Dumat al-Jandal, Al Jouf, with origins reaching deep into pre-Islamic northern Arabia.

Qasr Marid rises on a hill above the historic oasis town of Dumat al-Jandal in Al Jouf Province. The fortress has very ancient origins, mentioned in classical sources, and was reused and rebuilt over many centuries. Its mud-brick and stone walls overlook the old town, the historic Omar ibn al-Khattab Mosque, and the surrounding palm groves.

It is one of the most atmospheric heritage sites in the northern Kingdom and a natural complement to a visit to the Al Jouf Regional Museum and the Al Rajajeel stones. Please verify current access arrangements from the official source.
