Asir

An editorial orientation to walking and viewpoints in the Asir highlands of southwest Saudi Arabia, around Abha, Jabal Sawda and the heritage villages.

The Asir highlands, in the southwest of the Kingdom, are one of the country’s most striking landscapes: cool mountain weather, juniper forests, terraced fields, stone tower villages and dramatic views over the Tihama plains. Around Abha, Jabal Sawda and Rijal Almaa, short walks and viewpoint trails connect heritage villages with mountain scenery.

Conditions, access and trail signposting vary. Routes range from easy viewpoint strolls to longer walks suited to experienced walkers, ideally with a local guide for the more remote sections.
